Nobel Peace Prize – The EU don’t deserve it.

The European Union & a Nobel Peace Prize.

I was a bit taken aback when I heard that the Nobel Peace Prize had been awarded to the EU.

My first thought was ‘ok, no one’s noticed the double-dip recession or all those riots then?‘.

Peace in Greece!?

The thought stuck with me throughout the day. HOW exactly are the EU….the EU, a board of 27 members, how are they the most suitable icons of peace on this planet at the moment. There MUST be something behind this. I mean, don’t get me wrong there have been some questionable nominees for the prize in the past but Europe is really in a state at the moment and I wouldn’t call it a state of peace and prosperity. Our gracious leaders and the men at the top of the tower are corrupt and got us in to this mess. Did I mention the recession, or the rioting? I just don’t understand how the EU won this!

Here’s what the EU’s front page looked like on the day that the prize was announced.

European Union - Nobel Peace Prize

Oh the irony!

…and here is another headline from the day…

‘Don’t forget Malala: The Girl Who Should’ve Won the Nobel Peace Prize’

Malala - The girl blogger in a terrifing world.

Malala Yousafzai – The cruel cost of an education.

Malala just wants an education. She had been writing for the BBC under a pseudonym since she was eleven ears old, but sadly she was shot earlier this week by Taliban soldiers that saw her writing as a threat. She’s currently in hospital recovering and we want to send her heaps of love and good thoughts. Stay strong Malala.

This brings me to my point, there are much more deserving people and organisations than the EU. Even Norway declined to sign up to the EU and they’re the country that awarded the prize. Sounds dodgy to me, but that’s a different post entirely.
